About Mikayla...
I believe that through sharing our lives with others, our pain becomes more bearable. In a relationship, we can sort through life’s stressors, joys, hurts, and grief. In addition, when we become more self-aware, we are often more empowered to be change agents in our own lives.
My practice is informed by the systems in our life we are embedded in. Furthermore, I work in the context of our relationship to ourselves, others, creation and God. In exploring these parts of our lives, we can work towards greater awareness and healing. In addition, I work through an attachment lens. Our attachment to others is a large part of what forms us. Seeing our development through that lens informs us of the relational habits we’ve acquired that may be helping or hindering our relationships. Also, I primarily work through the modality of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). Furthermore, my work is influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS), Satir Family Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). These modalities provide helpful language and tools for individuals to work towards overall well-being.
In my journey, I have walked towards healing in a few ways. First, through meaningful relationships with others. For example, I have been touched through conversations, prayer and exploring my thoughts and emotions with others. Second, through understanding more about myself, the more I can show up in relationships with others, pursue dreams and live a life authentic to my values. Finally, through learning about God’s love for me and seeking a deeper relationship with Him, I find deep rest in the assurance that there is a hope greater than myself.
I am currently in my Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy at Trinity Western University. When I am not working towards this goal, I enjoy hiking, playing guitar and time with loved ones. A day well spent has a bit of all of the above!
I would be honoured to be a part of your journey and hope to provide the space needed to process life events and work towards greater wholeness and healing together!
